Dread Archie Jr.—also known as DOA and performing under the alias Da Kontrol Room—is a multi-talented entertainer hailing from Staten Island, New York. With roots in vocal percussion, beatboxing, acting, and comedy, he’s carved out a dynamic career that bridges classic hip hop expression and modern performance artistry.
Dread first gained national attention after starring in a Wrigley’s Winterfresh gum commercial, a breakout opportunity that earned him membership in the Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA). That early gig opened doors into mainstream media and advertising, with his beatboxing featured prominently in the campaign—a rare and innovative use of vocal percussion in early 2000s television ads.
In 2002, he was featured in the documentary “Breath Control: The History of the Human Beat Box,” showcasing his mastery as a vocal percussionist and placing him alongside pioneers of the art form. His performance was recognized as one of the standout moments in the film, which has since become a cult classic among hip hop and music documentary fans.
A graduate of the William Esper Studio, Dread is classically trained in acting and continues to work in film and television. His comedy persona, Da Kontrol Room, blends observational humor, music, and streetwise storytelling. Through his Instagram page @da_kontrol_room, he posts original skits, beatboxing routines, and promotional content for his live appearances.
He is a regular host and performer at events across the East Coast, with recent credits including comedy nights in Delaware and the talk show-style showcase "Chop It Up." Whether performing live or on screen, Dread Archie Jr. delivers a powerful mix of rhythm, personality, and sharp humor.
